101st : Membury

The unit insignia of the 436th Troop Carrier Group, stationed at RAF Membury from 02/44 to 02/45. The 436th TCG took part in Operations Overlord, Dragoon and Market Garden, as well as re-supply missions to the 101st Airborne in Bastogne during the Ardennes fighting. This insignia was recovered in 1992 from a building on the old technical site at RAF Membury by members of the Ridgeway Military and Aviation Research Group.

Membury Airfield is now bisected by the M4 motorway, but many buildings remain including these hangars and many Maycrete huts, both on the main airfield site and at dispersed sites in the nearby woods and village.
